After a year of stability a depressive episode came like a fierce wind, knocking the air out of my chest and me off my feet. These intimate self-portraits are an examination of my own deteriorating mental health, and the nakedness required while unmasking mental illness.

Kimberly Kizzia has struggled with bipolar disorder since she was a teenager. This series documents a depressive episode from March 2022 when her meds suddenly stopped working. After a lithium toxicity hospitalization, she was able to
re-stabilize under a new medication.
